Defrosting
Move a pouch from freezer to fridge the night before serving (4–6 hours to thaw).
Pouches last up to 7 days in the fridge.
Tip: defrost a week’s worth at once to avoid “forgot-the-cat’s-dinner” stares.
Serving
Snip the pouch open and serve in a wide, shallow bowl (to protect whiskers).
Serve straight from the fridge or warm slightly:
Place sealed pouch in warm (not hot) water for 5–10 mins
Or microwave food for ~10 seconds
If fat separation occurs, warming helps blend it back in.- To adjust food consistency, add a teaspoon or two of warm water and mix thoroughly. Gradually adjust the amount to suit your cat’s preference without making it too watery.
Let the food come to room temperature after refrigeration to enhance its natural aroma, making it more appealing for cats.
For the best experience, we recommend serving Marro in smaller portions. Not only is this great during transitioning but as a fresh food, it generally maintains its best quality when left at room temperature for up to about two hours. There isn’t a strict rule, as this can vary depending on the surrounding temperature, for instance, during warmer summer conditions it’s advisable to be a bit more mindful about how long it’s left out. Many cats also prefer food that smells fresh, and if a meal has been sitting out for too long they may simply decide it’s old and refuse it, even if it’s still safe. If your cat is a grazer, offering smaller amounts more frequently can help keep each serving fresh and appealing, and less dry, but ultimately the ideal approach will depend on your cat’s individual appetite and eating speed
Why fat separation happens
It’s natural - Marro doesn’t use emulsifiers or stabilisers.
It’s a sign of high-quality, natural ingredients, not a problem.
Stirring after warming makes the texture smooth and appealing.- After refrigeration or freezing, the gravy may take on a jelly-like consistency. This is a natural and safe occurrence that reflects Marro's natural ingredients. Some cats may even prefer this texture.
Feeding tips
If your cat’s new to Marro, start with a small amount alongside their current food (see “Transitioning to Marro”).
Some cats like chunky food - mash with a fork to adjust texture.
Place bowls in quiet spots (cats prefer calm dining).
Multi-cat homes: serve separately to avoid competition.- If your cat is hesitant to eat, try adjusting the texture by adding water or lightly warming the food.
Observe your cat’s preferences over a few trials to identify the optimal preparation technique.
